(Albanian MODEL United Nations)

2016 Albanian Model United Nations Team Application

This application is for leaders of aspiring teams for the 7th Albanian Model United Nations, 2016.

Model United Nationse

Model United Nations (MUN) is a participatory and informative method for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn more about global issues and the role and functions of the United Nations (UN). MUN is an authentic simulation of the activities of UN bodies. Participants assume the roles of diplomatic representatives and are faced with the challenging and stimulating task of working on items from the UN’s vast agenda. Delegates in a MUN conference acquire many professional and leadership skills, including research, writing position papers, team building, and communicating at high levels of English proficiency. Participants in MUN conferences gain a better understanding of peacebuilding and the ideals of human rights and equality. As a tool for youth development, MUN provides a space for students to learn and work together while broadening their world view.

Albanian Model United Nations

Albanian Model United Nations (AMUN) offers Albanian high school students a unique opportunity to engage in diplomatic processes, enhance their research and debating skills, and learn about major world issues affecting global political, social, and economic spheres. Participants in AMUN gain in-depth understanding of international relations, global politics, macro-economics, and transnational social issues. Students also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, topics which are typically neglected in the Albanian education system. In its seventh year, AMUN will engage students and Team Leaders from high schools and/or community centers throughout Albania in a series of participatory and educational activities. Essentially, there are four basic program components: (1) Training of Trainers conference; (2) At-site training, research, and team preparation; (3) FUNDRAISING; (4) Regional Conferences.

Expectations

The 7th AMUN Program will differ from the 2014-2015 academic year in that our funding partners have not yet committed to sponsoring a program in full. Consequently, fundraising and partnership collaboration will be an additional condition to this year's program. We are currently exploring funding options for transportation and accommodations for a fInal conference, as well as for embassy visits. However, as financing has not yet been secured, we cannot fully commit to providing transportation costs for embassy visits or producing a final conference to the scale of the 2014-2015 program. However, multiple regional conferences are being programmed to give students the opportunity to debate and enhance their skills with other students around the country. Fundraising will be an important aspect in transportation to these regional conferences. There are many ideas and options for raising funds including bake sales, movie nights, and sponsorship from local organizations and businesses. The AMUN team will also be available for any help and contribution of possibilities. Collaboration with local businesses and organizations (governmental and nongovernmental) could also potentially be beneficial in providing support for your AMUN team.

Terms and Conditions for Selections

1. AMUN delegations for the regional conferences will consist of 6-9 members. However, it is not necessary to select the specific members until the conferences. 2. Delegation members must have a strong command of the English language with at least “Above Average” language proficiency. 3. Each team must have (2) Team Leaders. A Team Leader may be a teacher, community member, or Peace Corps Volunteer (only one PCV per team). 4. Delegations whose Team Leaders do not attend the Training of Trainers will not be qualified to attend the conferences. 5. Teams must be committed to the potential of fundraising to cover the costs associated. 6. All accepted delegations must complete a service learning project in their respective community.
